This SIP Societe Genevoise MU-214B Universal Measuring Machine is likely the most complete still in existance. Made by Societe Genevoise D'Instruments de Physique- more commonly called S.I.P., this is the finest Measuring Microscope ever made. I am an enthusiast of Hardinge HLV-H Lathes, Moore Precision Tools, and Pratt & Whitney..but SIP beat them all on the beautiful finish and fitted boxes that they put their tools in. This has travel of 16" in the longitudinal direction, 4 inches in the transverse, and 6" of vertical travel all read through optical microscopes reading glass scales with an accuracy of 0.00004 in a standard temp lab. Some modified these to digital scales, but I see it with CCD cameras on the eyepieces going to a monitor- no parallax! I have the original manual and the brochure describing the available accessories...this one has it all! I bought this from the inspection dept of a major aerospace Cal lab more than 20 years ago, and there was paperwork to show that they had purchased this machine- Used- for over a quarter million dollars!
