The QuickSet Hercules QHT-1 is the Tripod many prefer in a multitude of applications. As a sturdy, but portable tripod, it is used in Optical Tooling, Military, Video, Astronomy, and many other Scientific applications. Not cheap, but built like a tank. The 2-section legs extend to more than 4 feet tall, while the rack and pinion operated central support can be extended up another 2 feet. Load capacity is rated at 150 pounds, with a maximum height of 70" tall. This is a lightweight unit- only weighing 23 pounds. I have these priced at less than 50% of new....I have 3 Hercules tripods that are the "Short Model". When fully collapsed, its total height is only 31"-making it a great choice for a portable Hercules tripod that is more easily packed for airline transport, or put in the trunk of a car for travel. Its overall height when extended is lower- about a foot shorter than a standard unit- but if the height isn't needed- this may work for you!
